Unique Ways to Make Bar Trivia More Exciting

If you have been to a bar or brewery, chances are you have enjoyed a game of trivia. Hosting trivia nights can be a great addition to your weekly or monthly event schedule, but you may be looking unique ways to make bar trivia more exciting.

Bar Trivia

Trivia is a great event for bars and breweries. It is versatile and can be easily customized to fit your audience and the atmosphere of your bar. But if every bar offers a trivia night, you need unique ways to make bar trivia more exciting and help your bar stand out from the others. Here’s how to do it.

Great Advertising

For people to show up to your trivia night, they have to know about it. Social media platforms are the easiest, fastest, most convenient way to reach a large audience for FREE. Use your social media presence to promote your event.

Create a Facebook event that allows customers to RSVP and share event details with friends. Keep the audience engaged by posting reminders of the event, sharing clues to certain questions, and offering sneak peeks of the prizes that will be offered.

Have a Great Trivia Host

Your trivia host plays a large role in the event. It may seem as simple as reading off questions but its not. Someone must design and prepare the game, engage the audience, tally and track points, keep an eye on the time, and more. A professional host keeps the game running smoothly and makes your event special.

Offer Unique Prizes

Commonly, prizes for trivia games include free drinks or gift cards. To spice things up, offer a prize that is unique. A t-shirt or hat with your logo on it or a cool new beer stein are great ways to take it to the next level.

If you really want to make it special, consider a custom item that has your logo and a reference to your weekly trivia game. This could be as simple as a phase like “Trivia Champion” or a special stein that can only be won on trivia night. Exclusive prizes up the ante!

Deals and Discounts

To get a large crowd in for trivia night, consider offering special deals like discounted drinks during the game or even a free appetizer for answering 5 questions in a row correctly. This adds another layer to the competition and creates a fun atmosphere.

Shake Things Up

One of the best ways to make trivia more unique is to shake it up. Choose a topic that is trending in popular culture or do a themed trivia night. These draw large crowds of self-proclaimed nerds ready to test their knowledge of a favorite movie or show. Think about the cult followings shows like Game of Thrones or Friends have. Movie franchises like Harry Potter or Marvel are also great choices. Don’t forget to advertise your special theme!

Our Unique Approach to Bar Trivia

We find that the best trivia games are fun and challenging without being too difficult and time consuming. We accomplish that through a few different methods.

  • 2nd to Last Place Prize. We offer this prize in addition to our normal 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. This keeps things fun and light and has become a very popular prize category.

  • The Wacky Raffle. Each participant gets a raffle tickle before the game begins. During the trivia night, we do random drawings for prizes.

  • An Accent Off. To break a tie, a player from each team must do their best British/Southern/Canadian/Scottish/etc. accent and the audience votes for a winner.

  • Cowbell Off. In this tie breaker, a player from each team must perform the cowbell to BOC’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper”.

These are just some of the unique things we do to make our game stand out, and are continuing to innovate and add new ideas!
